Incorporated in 1936, the Franklin Rod and Gun Club Inc. is a non-profit, private sporting club located on Uncas pond in Franklin, Massachusetts. With 150 current members, the club is one of the oldest active organizations in Franklin. One of the unique aspects of the club is our boat landing and fishing beach. Although Uncas pond is land locked by private property, the club believes in sharing the pond and its resources and therefore maintains free public access via our boat landing which is maintained solely with club funds. The goals of the Franklin Rod and Gun Club are the conservation and enjoyment of our natural resources and to promote and support responsible fishing, hunting and boating activities in accordance with fish, wildlife, conservation and environmental regulations. Our Clubhouse has a meeting capacity of 135 people and a fully equipped kitchen with victual license, pool table, 50 ft ventilated indoor pistol range with 3 shooting stations and 24 hour access. The Club also has a private beach on the 25 acre stocked pond, a 50 ft. dock, public boat landing and fishing beach, club boats and horseshoe pits. Our activities include a spring trout derby, an ice fishing derby, game supper, spring and fall Porketta's, a Thanksgiving turkey shoot (pellet rifles & paper targets), cribbage tournaments, Sunday breakfasts (October through March) and an annual VP raffle. Currently dues are $70 a year and there is a $50 initiation fee. Applicants must be sponsored by a club member and hold a valid sporting license (hunting or fishing). Members are required to contribute a minimum of 10 work hours annually on behalf of the club or pay $5 for each hour less than 10 not contributed. The Club currently provides college scholarships and sponsors the attendance of 13 - 17 year old family members to the Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp. GOAL (Gun Owners Action League), Massachusetts Sportsmen's Council. Our monthly newsletter is published on this website (Members area) and posted in the clubhouse. Our general meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm. If you are interested in becoming a member, this is a great opportunity to see the facilities, meet some of the members and get a sponsor. Dinner is served at most meetings. A dinner signup sheet is available prior to dinner meetings. Call the club for details. From Rt. 495 take exit 16, King St. and turn north approximately 1 mile to Summer Street. Turn right on Summer St. 1.2 miles to Florence St. on the left. Take Florence St. to its end and there is a large unpaved parking area on the left. The access road to the public boat landing is in the far Northwest corner of the parking area. It is not well marked. (Note: The access road is steep and rough.) For the safety and enjoyment of all those who use the boat landing, there is no parking allowed on the beach except for handicap parking in the designated area.
