NRA Personal Protection in the Home

Overview:
Course Goal - To develop the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense. This course focuses on preparing for an intruder, strategies for home safety, cover vs. concealment, fundamentals of defensive accuracy, shooting from different positions, confronting an intruder, working with the police, what happens after a shooting, state and federal law. This course is intended for individuals who are comfortable operating & shooting their own pistol. The class takes place in a traditional classroom setting and range environment where students can expect to shoot 100 rounds. After successful completion, students will receive an NRA Basics of Personal Protection in Home Certificate.
Topics:
Using a firearm responsibly and ethically for personal protection, developing the proper mindset for using a firearm for personal protection and facing a life-threatening encounter, four levels of awareness, confronting an assailant or intruder and psychological reactions, defensive accuracy & marksmanship, scanning & assessing for threats, flash sight picture & point shooting, moving & shooting from different positions, cover & concealment, Federal & MA gun law, strategies for home safety, emergency planning & safe rooms, working with the police, emotional & legal aftermath of a shooting, storing firearms in the home, selecting a firearm for home protection, ammunition and firearm accessory considerations.

- Payment - Check, Money Order or Cash. Make check or money order payable to: Franklin Rod & Gun Club, Inc.
- A valid LTC
- Handgun, 100 rounds of ammunition (no hollow point, wadcutter or semi-wadcutter bullets) and a hip holster
- One extra magazine / speedloader and holding device
- Eye and Ear protection
- Note taking material
- A positive attitude
