Utah Non-Resident Concealed Firearms Permit Course
The Utah non-resident concealed firearm permit is the most widely accepted non-resident permit in the United States. If you travel for business or pleasure, now you can continue to maintain your personal safety in 36 states across the country. To obtain this permit, students must complete an approved course of instruction taught by a Utah state certified instructor. The following 36 states recognize the Utah permit: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
 
This course is classroom lecture only.  Utah does not require any live fire or range qualification to obtain their permit. This class follows the training outline mandated by the State of Utah, Bureau of Criminal Identification and covers:
  • The Utah Concealed Firearms Permit & Application
  • Handgun Safety Rules & Considerations
  • Handgun Parts & Operation
  • Ammunition & Malfunctions
  • Standing Shooting Positions
  • The Five Fundamentals of Shooting
  • Safe Gun Handling
  • Common Stoppages
  • Firearm Maintenance, Concealment & Storage
  • Utah Law
  • Firearms Safety Program
A permit from your home state is not required to take this course. However, you will need to have obtained your home state permit before mailing in your application to Utah if your state has a process for issuing carry permits and has reciprocity/recognition with Utah. At the end of the course, students will receive a signed & stamped application by the instructor.  Students will then need to obtain: passport photos, fingerprints (local police department typically offers this), copy of driver’s license & state permit.  Students will then mail these with their application and payment of $63.25 to UT.
 
Students should plan to bring the following to this course:
* Payment - Check, Money Order or Cash. Make check or money order payable to: Franklin Rod & Gun Club, Inc.
* Note taking material.
* A positive attitude.
